i've got a new favorite word that makes me smile:
deadpan

–adjective
1. marked by or accomplished with a careful pretense of seriousness or calm detachment; impassive or expressionless: deadpan humor.
2. displaying no emotional or personal involvement: a deadpan style.

....
i found this word reading "can you keep a secret?" - a novel by sophie kinsella.  another love story.  the guy has deadpan humor, and often has a deadpan expression when he's most entertaining.  haha.

i think i like the word more because i can't be deadpan about anything.  oh well.

poem of a list-making addict

i like putting things down in a calendar.
i like organizing things into lists.
when something physically can't fit in
then i tend to shake my head and fists

i think i'm getting good at it
i think i'm not pushing my bounds
then i think, where's free time?
and i think...between the rounds

of tutoring, and babysitting
and cooking and cleaning
busyness, busyness, busyness
is there any meaning

to the unending circle of things to do
to the unending lists of stuff
do i do it all to please my God
or is it all just fluff

i need to reevaluate
i need to take time out
i need to seek my God
and see what this is about

is it about my worth
is it about my pride
is it going to be helpful
will anyone benefit when i've died

the unending rat race
run run run till the end
but don't forget why you're running
it's only to Jesus at the end, my friend

.........
Ecclesiastes 4: 4-8

4 I also saw that man works hard and accomplishes a lot. But he does it only because he wants what his neighbor has. That doesn't have any meaning either. It's like chasing the wind.

5 A foolish person folds his hands and doesn't work.
      And that destroys him.
6 One handful with peace and quiet
is better than two handfuls with hard work.
Working too hard is like chasing the wind.

7 Again I saw something on earth that didn't mean anything.

8 A man lived all by himself.
He didn't have any sons or brothers.
   His hard work never ended.
But he wasn't happy with what he had.
"Who am I working so hard for?" he asked.
"Why don't I get the things I enjoy?"
That doesn't have any meaning either.
In fact, it's a very bad deal!

more survey fun

Who was the last person to text you?
no idea...don't get text messages. =)  other than from the phone company to tell me they've received my cell phone payment.

This time last year, what was your relationship status?
- Married. =)

Does someone like you right now?
- Yup

What does the 15th message in your inbox say?
- I don't have 15 messages.

Have you ever gone up to a car thinking it was yours, and almost got in?
- Yup.  But then the car door wouldn't open.  It was funnier when one of my students (awhile back) actually got in the wrong car (they were supposed to get into my car...but they got in the wrong one).  they looked around a bit and then got out and found my car.  i thought that was more hilarious.

How many radio stations do you listen to?
- 1. KPBS/NPR/PRI

When was the last time you were in a car with someone besides family?
- Yesterday

What are your plans for the weekend?
- Tutoring, getting dinner with the hubby, game night with hubby and friends, sleep, church, hangout with the hubby, dinner with hubby and uncle john, sleep

Is your current hair color mostly your natural hair color?
- Yes.  It's fully natural.

Who sits next to you in math class?
- Which one?

Where was the last place you fell asleep other than your bed?
- In the driver's seat.

Who was the last person you talked to on the phone?
- Steven

- Sure.

- Yes.

- Maybe.

Name one person you wish you could fix things with, and why haven’t you?
- Hm.  I don't know who to pick.  I haven't fixed things up with certain people because it should be a two way street.  If i start fixing up with someone...but they don't reciprocate, I just figure to leave them alone.

- Yup.

Do you honestly miss someone?
- Um, sure.  When I think about certain friends who are not close by, I miss them.

Would you rather get a new puppy or a new car?
- Oooo...not sure.  I like my car.  I'd like a puppy...but it'd depend on the type of puppy and the type of car.  I don't want a mean puppy...or one that would destroy the house.

Would it be hard seeing someone else kiss the person you like?
- I'd be extremely angry.

You receive $50 without any reason, what do you spend it on?
- Dinner. =)

Have you had any beer this week?
- No.

Would you be someone's girlfriend/boyfriend right now if they asked?
- If the hubby decided to ask me to be his girlfriend, I'd say yes...but I'd also ask why not just be the wife?

- Um.  Nah

thoughts...rachels & leahs

it's interesting.

we were having a sermon on rachel and leah yesterday.  one of the anecdotes that paul was talking about in his sermon was about a special beach.  he remembered it to be a beautiful beach...amazing, wonderful, spectacular, one of a kind.  it had many special memories attached with it.

he hadn't seen the beach in awhile...but he went to go visit it recently (i think it was last week).
he saw it again...and thought, wow...it's smaller than i thought.  and man...it's kind of dirty in here...

in the head = rachel.
but when you wake up...it's leah.

....

it's kind of interesting to think about.  i think had some rachels back in the day...  people who you thought were just perfect.  people you really wish to have been closer to.  people you thought looked nice.  people you used to envy a lot....

i think one of the fun things about facebooking with high school peeps is that you get to see what people look like now.  some people were really good looking then.  they're not bad-bad looking now...but they're not quite as "good looking" as i remembered them to be.  lol.  the people i used to be physically attracted to back in the day...well, they're not quite so good looking anymore.  i find that relieving.  i think i used to be a little weirded out by my feelings of attraction when i was near guys i was attracted to...now that they're no longer so "attractive" (or at least they're no longer physically attractive to me)...i think i could look them in the face and like them for their person and not their looks.  hahaha.  poor steve.  i'm still attracted to him...but heck, i'm married to him too.  weirdness goes out the door when you're married to your best friend.

in a way, it's kind of like Ecclesiastes...good looks fade.  we get old.  we get wrinkly.  some of us get bald and others of us get fatter.  all that surface stuff just weathers off and ...then, what is left behind?

=)  maybe it's nice that we finally all don't look so good anymore.  hahaha.  much less pressure.  much more real stuff.  much more real beauty instead of the surface-y beauty.

i'm looking forward to the 10 year high school reunion.  ...  i hope we don't have to dress up fancy.  i just want to hang out with people and show off my hubby and best friend, steve.  =)
